At the moment we are urgently seeking volunteers to work in our visitors' centres in HMP Nottingham and HMP Forest Bank (Manchester).
We are also urgently seeking play area volunteers at HMP Feltham to work at weekends.
Volunteering gives you the opportunity to broaden your horizons, expand your CV, meet new people, and experience new opportunities and fresh challenges. pact's volunteers receive references, expenses, and excellent training from supportive staff.
Our volunteers carry out a variety of roles:
- Survey volunteers: we are looking for people to take part in pact's annual survey, talking to our service users at prison visitors' centres about their experiences
- visitors' centre volunteers: this role involves providing support and advice to visiting families, conducting surveys, booking people in for visits, responding to phone enquiries, and lending a general hand
- play area volunteers work within the prison visits hall in the play area, working alongside the play co-ordinator to normalise children's visits
- hospitality volunteers serve refreshments to prisoners and their families inside prison visits halls
- first night volunteers NOT CURRENTLY AVAILABLE give practical and emotional support to prisoners during their first night in prison. We need volunteers in the late afternoon and evenings. Only available at HMP Holloway and HMP Wandsworth
- court project volunteers: NOT CURRENTLY AVAILABLE only available at HMP Belmarsh, this role involves volunteering at Woolwich Crown Court, meeting with newly sentenced prisoners awaiting transfer to prison that need advice and support.
