The purpose-built centre was officially opened by Stephen Shaw CBE, the Prison and Probation Ombudsman, who praised the partnership between the prison and pact which has resulted in the creation of the new centre.

The Visitors' Centre is managed by a pact worker, who works alongside a colleague from Barnardo's and a small group of dedicated volunteers to welcome families and provide them with information, guidance and support.

Inside the building, visitors can find a large, bright and cheerful seating area, leaflets and displays, toilets, vending machines, and toys and games for children to play with. Outside, there's an outdoor play area with climbing frames and a slide.
