PACT LUNCH

pact runs catering services for prisoners and their families in prison visits halls and visitors' centres, helping prisoners to maintain a bond with their family through the shared ritual of sitting down to eat.

At our coffee bars, we sell a wide range of food and drink, including:

  • Tea and coffee
  • Fresh fruit
  • Sandwiches
  • Yoghurts
  • Chocolate bars
  • Soup
  • Smoothies

We believe that simple comforts like a cup of tea, a sandwich, a piece of fruit or a chocolate bar can help, in a small but practical way, to alleviate some of the stress involved in visiting a prisoner.

In prison visits halls, we often see people buying food from one of our coffee bars and sitting down to eat a meal with the prisoner they are visiting. Eating together as a family brings a touch of normality to an otherwise strained and artificial situation.

Healthy options
We are particularly keen to provide healthy options. All too often, people visiting prisoners are provided with nothing but vending machines selling sweets, crisps and fizzy drink. But at pact's coffee bars, visitors can purchase a range of healthy food and drink - smoothies, fresh fruit, sandwiches, and yoghurts. We keep the prices of our healthy options as low as possible.

A social enterprise
We call our catering work 'pact lunch' and run it as a social enterprise. This means that any profit generated is ploughed back into pact's services at that particular prison.
