CHRISTMAS CARD FOR A PRISONER APPEAL 2009

Many prisoners will be alone this Christmas, imprisoned far away from home, and without the support of family and friends.

We invite you to write a message in a Christmas card, send it to us, and we will give your card to a serving prisoner before Christmas Day.

You can give a little piece of hope to a serving prisoner this Christmas.

Send your card (or cards) to:
Freepost RLTY-SABS-YEKR
Prison Advice and Care Trust

City Cloisters
196 Old Street
London

Last year we were overwhelmed by the generous response to the appeal. Hundreds of cards arrived at our head office and were distributed in the week before Christmas - thank you!

Not sure what to write?
Here are some guidelines on what to write - and what not to write - in your Christmas card to a serving prisoner:

  • don't include your personal contact details. If you want to write to a prisoner, we suggest approaching a charity that can link you up with a prisoner, such as Bridging the Gap
  • simple, brief messages of goodwill or solidarity are best. For example: 'Thinking of you this Christmas time' or 'Wishing you hope and happiness for the future'
  • getting several people to sign one card is a great idea - how about your youth group, Bible study group or Justice and Peace group?
  • Lastly, don't worry - all the cards we receive are checked before they are given to a prisoner, to weed out anything inappropriate
