I first started volunteering for Pact in late 2015. Originally, I applied for the job because I needed experience for my MSc in Forensic Psychology, but it became so much more than that to me. I’ve worked on the HMP Holloway project and it began to feel like home to me, I felt like a valued member of the team and I couldn’t have asked for a better volunteer coordinator, Theresa Tsui. She gave me confidence in my skills and endless advice and encouragement. I’ve found that in many companies, volunteers are treated differently to paid staff, and with Pact it could not be further from the truth. The project itself has become very dear to me and has given me a real insight into what prison life is really like. I have immensely enjoyed helping the women I have, and feel a real sense of pride at seeing the woman I’m currently working with succeed in so many ways.

I will really miss working on this project, and with the other volunteers and my fantastic coordinator. Despite having gotten what I originally applied to this project for, I would continue working on it for a long time to come were it feasible, and I sincerely hope to start on another project soon. I can only hope the people I work with there are half as fantastic as the people I’ve had the privilege of working with so far. Pact does amazing, invaluable work and that is definitely reflected in the enthusiasm and hard work I’ve been a part of.
