It was a pleasure to welcome friends and colleagues from across the criminal justice community, health and charity sectors, supporters, volunteers and people with lived experience, at our AGM & Volunteer Awards 2023 on Wednesday 20 September 2023.

The event, kindly hosted by London South Bank University, was an opportunity to explore issues affecting prisoners and their families and how we can work together to address them more effectively. We also celebrated the incredible contribution of our volunteers with our annual Volunteer Awards.

Our keynote speaker - Lord Bradley

The Rt Hon the Lord Bradley shared his reflections on progress since his landmark 2009 report about mental health and criminal justice. Whilst there remains a long way to go to improve outcomes for people in the system with mental health problems, his message was one of hope.

If adequately funded systems can be joined up more effectively, we will be able to divert more people away from prison, as well as treating ill people more effectively. The end result would be safer prisons for staff and prisoners, as well as safer communities for all of us.

Volunteer Awards 2023

As always, our Volunteer Awards were a hugely uplifting occasion, allowing us to celebrate some of the heroes of our organisation who support the hidden victims of crime – the children and families of people in prison – as well as helping people to make a fresh start.

Quite simply, without the dedication and commitment of our inspirational volunteers we would not be able to deliver our vital services day-in day-out.

I’d like to extend my warmest congratulations to the deserving winners of our Volunteer Awards. You can see our winners and a selection of other images from the event here. We are so grateful to David, Ian, Sonja Anne, Kelly, JWL, LW, Bethany, Sofia, John, Caroline and to all our volunteers for all that you do.

We were also delighted to honour our Chair of Trustees, Phil Taylor OBE, who is retiring from our Board after 10 years. Phil was presented with an Award by Ina De, the High Sheriff of Greater London, in recognition of his tireless work and support for Pact’s work. Read more here.

If you attended the event, we would be delighted to hear your feedback. Share your views and ideas for future events by filling in our online form.

Thank you to everyone who joined us at this year's event - our speakers, panel members, award presenters and winners and all our guests.
