Support For Police

We understand that entering a home under the execution of a warrant or arrest is necessary and important in policing. However, you can take a few small steps to minimise the harm that can be caused to children in the home who witness the arrest.

We know that:

  • Children with a family member in prison are three times more likely to experience mental health problems than their peers.
  • Children who witness the arrest of a family member are 57% more likely to have elevated post-traumatic stress symptoms compared to children who do not.
  • One study showed that 6 out of 10 boys with a father in prison went on to offend themselves.

According to the Working Together to Safeguard Children 2015: Statutory Guidance: "Everyone who comes into contact with children and families has a role to play."
