Within My Reach supports young men in maintaining healthy, safe and stable relationships with partners and families, by tackling issues including domestic violence, handling conflict, trust and forgiveness, and recognising dangerous behavioural patterns with a focus on healthy and unhealthy ideas around masculinity, control and negative attitudes towards women and equality. The course is based on the PREP methodology - a scientifically based and empirically tested method of teaching relationship education which draws on 30 years of research.

Within My Reach improves the life chances of the participants and their families, present or future, and strengthens relationships in order to reduce the likelihood of re-offending.

It achieves the following outcomes:

  • Increased relationship support for young offenders for whom there is presently no provision
  • Improved communication and conflict management skills for participants
  • Improved understanding of how to create and sustain healthy relationships
  • Improved self-esteem and confidence
  • Improved quality of relationships and expectations
    about relationships
  • Reduced relationship aggression
  • Reduced likelihood of re-offending

Within My Reach is a programme associated with decreases in physical and emotional abuse, as well as isolating behaviours. Additional evidence also suggests practitioners experienced high levels of training satisfaction, increases in knowledge, and increases in communication/conflict resolution skills
