We build stronger families and safer communities

Pact is a pioneering national charity that supports prisoners, people with convictions and their families.

Every year, we support thousands of people across England and Wales affected by the criminal justice system to make a fresh start.

Prison Reform (1)

Reforming the prison system

By any objective measure, large parts of our prison system are in crisis. Inspection reports regularly reveal unacceptable conditions, with reports of vermin, violence, self-harm and people languishing in overcrowded cells with little to do. At the same time, too many people are released without the support they need to set them up for life after prison.

We believe a series of practical, deliverable proposals would help see the sector through the immediate crisis and towards a criminal justice system that delivers for everyone.

Prisoners' Families Helpline and website

The Prisoners’ Families Helpline can support you if you have a family member who is in contact with the criminal justice system in England and Wales.

Our team is made up of highly trained, skilled staff and volunteers with professional and personal experience of the criminal justice system.

The Helpline website is a valuable source of up-to-date information. You can access videos about prison life and our Safer Custody portal if you have concerns about your loved one's welfare.
