About us Our team Joanne Mulcahy Joanne started her career as a teacher before seeking opportunities to work in a role that allowed more focussed work with families. She subsequently worked for seven years as a community development worker for a local authority, with particular emphasis on children’s play. This allowed her to develop services in local communities in conjunction with residents, working with families to identify and address gaps in play provision in communities, schools, clubs and children’s centres. Joanne also created, accredited and delivered numerous training courses in working with families, play theory, child protection and participation, amongst others. Joanne volunteered for two years with the bereavement charity Cruse, working on one to one play therapy sessions with bereaved children using skills gained whilst studying to be a Developmental & Therapeutic Play Specialist. Joanne began her role with Pact at HMP Swansea, setting up a successful family support service at the prison which included innovative new services and interventions. Following a bid to Big Lottery Fund Wales, she further developed the service to include a Wales-wide team working in Swansea, Cardiff and Usk/Prescoed. Joanne is committed to keeping service users at the heart of family support work and working in partnership with other organisations in order to achieve the best possible outcomes.
