Pact response to incident at HMP Feltham

We are aware of the tragic death of a 16 year old child who was rushed to hospital from Feltham A yesterday. The police are investigating the circumstances. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends at this terribly sad time.

We are mindful of the many worried families who have loved ones in prison who may be affected by learning of this deeply upsetting event. While there will understandably be public debate about what this tragedy means for the criminal justice system, our focus at Pact is on offering practical support to families and loved-ones who may be worried about someone’s safety or wellbeing.

If you have a family member or loved one in custody and are worried about their safety or wellbeing, you can contact the Prisoners’ Families Helpline. We are open seven days a week on 0808 808 2003.

For urgent concerns about the immediate safety of someone in prison, families and friends can also raise an alert directly through the Safer Custody portal, which sends information straight to the prison to ensure concerns are reviewed and acted on as quickly as possible.
